HUX - The importance of hydration and exercise
Find your daily edge by making complex nutrition simple with HUX. Hydration is more than just drinking water. Ensuring you replenish essential electrolytes and minerals is vital. That's why we caught up with our friends at HUX to get the low down on all things hydration and exercise.
Tell us about HUX?
HUX is the health brand with a difference. We’re all about health, for real life. The wellness industry has blown up in the past few years and with that, so has supplementation. But when we looked around the industry, we found that so often supplements are boring, confusing, and inaccessible.
That’s why we created HUX. Born out of necessity, we developed our range to answer the main issues faced by people each and every day; nutrition and hydration. Our products are simple, beautiful and most importantly potent - they work.
How can you best stay hydrated and rehydrate after exercise? What are the main things you need to put back into your body?
Staying hydrated and rehydrating after exercise is crucial for recovery and performance. Effective hydration comes down to two key components; water and electrolytes. What most people misunderstand is the importance of electrolytes, water is only half of the hydration equation. When we sweat, we not only lose water, we lose salts from our body too, and so these need to be replaced in order to regain the balance…
Not all electrolyte tablets are created equal, and many only contain a couple of the essential electrolytes your body needs to stay hydrated. HUX Hydration contains all six essential electrolytes, these being sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, manganese and zinc.
Just one serving of our Hydration tablets contains the equivalent potassium of three bananas and more zinc than 10 cups of spinach…they pack a punch! As well as helping your body to direct fluid where it needs it the most, our electrolyte tablets help to aid muscle recovery and reduce inflammation as well as bolstering the immune system and protecting cells from damaging free radicals.
How important is complete hydration when exercising and how can dehydration affect performance?
Dehydration can result in fatigue, impaired performance, and even hinder the body's recovery process. It's not just about replenishing lost fluids; it's about restoring electrolyte balance and supporting optimal muscle function.
To get to the science of it, dehydration leads to lower blood volume, lesser cardiac output, and worse aerobic capacity. Your heart will be working harder and under delivering.
What is the optimal level of hydration and how much fluid do we need?
With hydration there isn’t necessarily a ‘one size fits all approach’. Hydration and fluid needs vary from person to person based on factors like age, weight, activity level, and climate, it’s important to listen to your body and its signals. A general rule of thumb is that thirst in itself is generally a sign of dehydration, so try not to let yourself get to this point.
We’d recommend the general 2-3 litres of water per day alongside a couple of our Hydration tablets - then you’re giving your body exactly what it needs, and you can of course tailor this to your specific hydration needs, if you’re really working up a sweat one day for example.
For us, Hydration is at the route of everything, nail your hydration levels and the rest will follow. That’s why we made our Hydration tablets - to offer a simple and quite frankly, DELICIOUS solution to one of life’s everyday health concerns.
Factors such as physical activity, climate, and health conditions play a role in determining your specific hydration needs. Engaging in strenuous exercise or being in hot weather increases fluid loss through sweat, necessitating additional water intake and electrolytes. Similarly, certain health conditions or medications may affect your body's hydration status, requiring tailored adjustments.
